Rebar futures contracts on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) slumped during trading on Monday (19 September), with sources attributing the fall to increasing concerns over the European sovereign debt crisis. Prices for the widely traded January rebar contract on the SHFE declined 2.3% to close at RMB 4,622/tonne ($723/t).
