摘要

Maj. Gen. Kevin J. Kennedy has an advanced degree in human resources, which probably comes in handy in his position as the director of the joint command's capability development directorate, known as J-8. Kennedy's job is to chart the U.S. military's networking future, which spans from tomorrow in Afghanistan to anywhere in the world a decade from now. He must prod the service leaders to buy compatible computers, software and communications equipment and make sure their priorities mesh with the strategy of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for how to succeed in Afghanistan. Kennedy has made himself one of the military's leading information technology voices, but he is not a technologist. He piloted B-52 bombers over Afghanistan as a wing commander after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Kennedy was deployed to Afghanistan for a year in 2007 and 2008, and earned a Bronze Star Medal in his role as coordinator of aircraft and satellite services for U.S. and international forces.
