Impact of globalization on citrus cultivation in Punjab Province of Pakistan.

What would happen to citrus cultivation in Pakistan's Punjab province in the face of globalization in agriculture as agreed under the Uruguay Round Agreement or likely to be taken up in the Millennium Round? The paper examines this question by estimating the effective incentive and the resource use efficiency in citrus cultivation using indicators such as effective rate of protection and domestic resource cost. The values of the nominal protection coefficient reveal strong 'dis-protection', suggesting comparative advantage in citrus cultivation. The coefficient of domestic resource costs is particularly helpful in determining the comparative advantage of citrus cultivation. This implies that citrus growers in Punjab province of Pakistan are likely to gain significantly once agricultural globalization takes place in its true sense..
