SAMPE Fall Technical Conference & Exhibition 2007

The SAMPE Midwest Chapter hosted the successful Fall Technical Conference in the city of Cincinnati, OH at the Cincinnati Hilton -Netherland Plaza October 29-November 1, 2007. The selected theme, "From Art to Science: Advancing Materials and Process Engineering", concentrated on the designated four technology "tracks" identified very early by the organizing committee. The committee developed the following four tracks: Nanotechnology, Propulsion, Computational Material Science and Morphing Technology. Each one of the tracks was supported completely by related tutorials, panels, sessions and an excellent bevy of technical papers. There were approximately 165 technical papers (including roughly 15 ITAR papers amongst them), making it one of the largest fall technical programs that SAMPE has had in recent years. There were 4 technology panels, a Keynote address, a Luncheon speaker, and, an evening riverboat cruise. The tutorial program, again organized mostly along track lines, consisted of 8 technology tutorials and 1 plant tour that was well-attended. Tutorials covered export control regulations, advanced composite materials and processes, carbon nanotube enabled materials, composites design and analysis, morphing technology, infusion processing, composites test methods and carbon science and technology. Many of these tutorials were new topics and new instructors. The tour, included in this year's tutorial program, consisted of a presentation on "Jet Engines 101: M&P Technology" at the GE Aviation Learning Centre. It was followed by a tour of the facility and drew about 25 attendees.
