During the upcoming 2003 SAMPE meeting in Long Beach, we will be celebrating the centennial of flight. We will look back and honor those "pioneers" whose accomplishments in advanced materials and processes have sustained the new developments in air- and space-flight for the past century Thanks to them, our industry has created and applied the world-class materials and process engineering advances, which provide a foundation to stimulate the next century of developments in air- and space-flight, interplanetary travel, infrastructure development, and energy systems to name only a few.
