United Steelworkers object to new MSHA diesel rule

The Mine Safety and Health Administration's June 6 revisions to its 2001 rule on miners exposed to diesel particulate matter was met widi skepticism by the United Steelworkers,a union representing metal,mineral and stone miners.The organization said June 7 that revisions to the new standard expand situations under which mine operators may use respirators rather than engineering controls,without requiring operators to test workers for their ability to use a respirator safely.
