Washington - A new bill that would force the secretary of labor to issue a patient-handling and injury prevention standard to reduce nursing injuries was recently introduced. Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) introduced on May 13 the Nurse and Health Care Worker Protection Act of 2009. The bill would require the use of engineering controls to lift and reposition patients, and eliminate manual lifting of patients by direct-care registered nurses and other health care workers.
