New cases of black lung in Kentucky,Virginia

ATLANTA-A recent NIOSH report identified a number of underground coal miners with advanced pneumoconiosis,revealing gaps in the current regulations and procedures to control dust.Commonly known as black lung disease,advanced pneumoconiosis was diagnosed in 37 miners working in eastern Kentucky and southwestern Virginia,according to a new study published in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (Vol.56,No.26).
