Acute phase proteins in Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica)with ulcerative enteritis

Twenty-five 3-week-old Japanese quails (Coturnixcoturnix japonica) with ulcerative enteritis were assessed for serum concentrationsof acute phase haptoglobin, serum amyloid A protein and inflammatory mediatorstumor necrosis factor-alpha, gamma interferon, total lipid and protein bound sialicacid. Compared with non-infected control birds, acute phase proteins andinflammatory mediator concentrations were higher in diseased birds. Total sialic acidappeared to be the most sensitive parameter.
