Intramedullary Osteosynthesis in Treatment of Unstable Intertrochanteric Femur Fractures

Unstable intertrochanteric femur fractures often occur in elderly people. After confirmation of the diagnosis of unstable intertrochanteric femur fracture by CT scan, surgical treatment should be implemented when the fracture is associated with symptoms or complications. Treatment options include intramedullary fixation and total hip replacement. Intramedullary fixation is usually preferred as it has less postoperative complications and better clinical efficacy.
