摘要

Beginning in 2003, NHTSA has partnered with the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) in an effort to build the capacity of the occupational therapy profession to address the safe driving and community mobility of the aging population. As a profession dedicated to working with individuals to overcome limitations with impairments, whether physical, emotional, or developmental, occupational therapists engage clients in daily tasks that clients find meaningful. Older adults rely on transportation to access services and to participate in their community. Thus, occupational therapists play an important role in assessing and counseling medically at-risk drivers, aging drivers, pedestrians or consumers of a range of transportation options.
