Teaching microbiology at the Institut Pasteur: the application of a pedagogical principle (1889-1939).

The Institut Pasteur's first and most famous course, Cours de Microbie technique, was offered by Roux in 1889. It was later transformed into a microbiology course, known as le Grand Cours, and it crystallized Louis Pasteur's central aim: to highlight the importance of laboratory experimentation. It further put into practice another of Pasteur's predominant concerns, embracing the complementarity of theory and practice while placing greater emphasis on practical orientation and training.
