The European Union (EU) said on Friday it would contribute ?7.2 billion ($10.5 billion) over the next three years to a fund which will help developing nations combat the effects of climate change. The deal was announced by EU rotating presidency-holder Fredrik Reinfeldt, who is Sweden's prime minister, after a two-day summit in Brussels. The EU's offer is ?1.2 billion more than the expected ?6 billion figure mentioned before the summit.
