摘要

"So when's the takeover?" That question has dogged Hal Kvisle ever since he took on the role of president and chief executive officer of Talisman Energy in 2012. Someone would bring it up at seemingly every newspaper interview and financial update, and the executive would always respond with some variation on the same answer: the company has better things to do than wait around for a rich suitorto save it. But if the right suitor comes along and offers the right price, it can be hard to say no. Spanish oil-major Repsol has announced that it is prepared to pay US$13 billion to acquire Talisman. The transaction value represents a 75 per cent premium on the seven-day volume weighted average share price and includes the company's current US$4.7-billiondebt.
