US silicone maker Momentive expands Chennai facility

US-based Momentive Performance Materials, which makes silicones and advanced materials, has expanded its manufacturing facility in Oragadam, near Chennai. This completes the $20-million investment commitment for India announced by the company in 2007.The 15-acre facility, set up in 2009, makes silicones, synthetic compounds derived from sand. Silicones are typically heat-resistant and rubber-like and are used as sealants, adhesives and lubricants in a various industries such as automotives, personal care, healthcare, agriculture and home textiles.
