Climate change due to the increasing concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere since pre-industrial times has emerged as a serious global environmental issue and poses a threat and challenge to mankind. According to the American Chemical Society, seven gallons of crude oil go into each of approximately a billion car tires that are produced every year worldwide. The latest tire technologies have been specifically developed to reduce those emissions. It is essential to replace crude oil-sourced polymers, additives and reinforcements with non-petroleum derived materials. Consumers are more aware of the need to protect our fragile planet and buy products that are environmentally-friendly, like CFC-free refrigerators and air conditioners, solar powered wrist watches, and compressed natural gas (CNG) or hybrid vehicles.
