MECHEL TARGETING AT LEAST 1 MLN TONNES OF COAL AT ELGA FIELD IN 2011

Mechel aims to produce at least 1 million tonnes of coal at the Elga field in Yakutia in 2011, the coal and steel group's senior vice president, Vladimir Polin said during a conference call. Polin said the field should produce its first coal in the autumn of next year. He said it was hard to gauge how much would be coking coal and how much steam coal, "but we're starting to strip the field and we can say there'll be hardly any steam coal."
