OMK'S VYKSA PLANT COULD CUT Q1 PIPE PRODUCTION 8.7 percent

Vyksa Steel Plant (VMZ), Russia's biggest pipe mill and a member of United Metallurgical Company (OMK), could cut steel pipe production 8.7 percent and rail carriage wheel production 44.3 percent year-on-year in the first quarter. VMZ plans to produce 330,000 tonnes of pipes and 119,000 wheels, Vladimir Kochetkov, the plant's managing director, told a press conference. VMZ produced 361,565 tonnes of pipes and 213,640 wheels in January-March last year. It produced 95,000 tonnes of pipes in January and sold 108,000 tonnes, Kochetkov said. It is targeting 128,000 tonnes in February, including 89,000 tonnes of large-diameter pipes.
