OMK'S VYKSA PLANT CUTS PIPE OUTPUT 6.7 percent IN JAN

The Vyksa Steel Plant (VMZ), Russia's biggest pipe mill, reduced pipe production 6.7 percent year-on-year in January to 95,944 tonnes, United Metallurgical Company (OMK), which controls the plant, said in a press release on February 11. Large-diameter pipe production grew 32.6 percent year-on-year to 64,675 tonnes. The Vyksa plant also produced 18,642 rail carriage wheels in January, down from 73,110 tonnes in the same month last year, due to slump in demand caused by a 50 percent reduction in rail freight in Russia in connection with the global economic crisis.
