The paper presents example results of finite element analysis leading to starting up of a new bathtubs' range production (1200 series). The design and verification of die for the stamping of bathtub 1200 was performed using finite element method. The difficulty encountered in the stamping process is the occurrence of both fracture and wrinkling. A series of tests was conducted to verify the material properties of the steel used for the actual production and for the computer simulations. The major and minor strain distributions obtained from the finite element simulations were used in conjunction with the forming limit diagram to predict the onset of fracture. In addition, the effects of blank holder pressure and friction on the occurrence of fracture and wrinkling were investigated. At the end the equivalent drawbead model was applied into finite elements model. An optimum drawbead distribution was determined, according to the finite element analysis, to avoid the formation of both fracture and wrinkles.
