It was only after training as a product designer in Nevers, France, that Marie Samson first encountered clay. Before 2007 her ambition was to be a product designer for luxury tableware, but her discovery of clay as a malleable material took her on a more artisanal path. An internship in 2009 with the ceramist Camille Schpilberg deepened her exploration. Marie describes this time as a revelation - and a true realisation of how she wanted to live her life. She went on to graduate in Ceramic Arts from Longchamp in 2010, and then from the European Institute of Ceramic Arts in Guebwiller in 2012. Last year Marie moved her studio to Saint-Jean de-la-Ruelle, a move that has given her a new creative impetus. In this space she has more room than her previous studio and, as it has a shop front, can sell her work directly from it.
