We have developed and implemented a new electrolyte composition for the electrochemical refining of indium, consisting of salts of lithium chloride, indium monochloride, and zinc chloride, having higher refining capability in comparison with those used previously.A distinctive feature of the new refining technique is the low electrolyte melt consumption - from 0.2 to 0.3 kg (in the previously used electrolytes this figure was 40-50kg), the low electric energy consumption (the voltage drop in the tank does not exceed 1.0 V, while in the known existing commercial electrolyzers it is 5-6 V).We have developed and introduced an original electrolyzer design, in which we have used a new principle of the arrangement the liquid electrodes, ensuring uniform distribution of the current density and excellent refining characteristics.
