Steel components such as special tubes and hydraulic cylinders are widely used in manufacturing. Such components are characterized by deep holes (diameter more than 70 mm) with little surface roughness (R_a ≤ 0.3 μm) and high machining precision (quality class 7 or better). The required precision and surface roughness are achieved by honing. With cutting tools of appropriate design, errors of the previous machining may be corrected and holes of correct geometric shape may be obtained. Moreover, high productivity is possible in honing.
