Large photo-actuated surface change of an electrospun nanofibrous membrane

摘要

Different membranes made by electrospinning of new materials-azo homo- and copolymers (p(-NO2) and p-(NO2-HEMA)) mdash;have been tested for surface photoinduced changes. A topographic deformation mdash;lateral or vertical mdash;depending on the geometry of the illuminated mats with a confocal microscope was performed. A photoinduced swelling of the surface was obtained. A shift of the image focus distance was observed corresponding to a volumetric variation with sometimes a go and back movement depending on the different involved mat layers. The amplitude of the surface expansion depends on the collective behavior of the prepared nanofibers and can reach 20 mu m.
