SOLAR CELLS: FALL IN JAPANESE SHIPMENTS SINCE 2014 -Chinese polycrystalline silicon imports reach a record level

Japanese shipments of solar modules have fallen since 2014 due to the reduction in feed-in-tariff (FIT) rates (Table 1). In the first half of 2016, shipments dropped by 23% year-on-year to 3,530MW, mainly due to lower residential and industrial demand (Table 2). While domestic production of solar modules fell by just 4% year-on-year (to 1,533MW) in the first half of 2016 (Table 3), overseas output by Japanese companies dropped by 33% (to 1,997MW). In Japan, Solar Frontier raised capacity for CIGS solar modules to over 1,000MW.
