It's no secret that road & Track likes the original Lexus IS 300 - found this compact rear-drive sports sedan nimble, reasonably priced. fun,durable and in possession of a sweet 3.0-liter inline 6 that made the car a natural competitor for BMW's 3 Series. By the summer of 2005, however, Lexus dealers were selling fewer than 1000 IS 300s each minth. No matter. The outgoing IS managed to strike a chord with young buyers, who have a median age of only 29. Lexus hopes to retain those young enthu-siasts while simultaneously appealing to a larger (i.e., older) audience, eventually bumping IS sales to 40,000 annually.
