Robots aren't likely to replace CNC milling machines any time soon, but you can find them increasingly doing machining operations. "A robot is not as rigid as a five-axis CNC machine," said L.P. Musunur, engineering manager for material removal, palletizing and packing at FANUC Robotics North America. "The flexibility of the robot makes the milling tool chatter. Typically, we don't try to do true machining operations. That's not a market we're trying to get into."
