Virulence factors involved in the pathogenesis of Vibrio parahaemolyticus

Vibrio parahaemolyticus is recognized worldwide as a pathogen, but its pathogenic mechanism has not been fully elucidated. For this reason, a comprehensive review is appropriate to assess the virulence factors of this bacterium: thermostable direct haemolysin (TDH), TDH-related haemolysin, ToxRS siderophores, type 3 secretion system, and type 6 secretion system, swimming, swarming, capsule and biofilm production, and other factors, together with the immune response that is caused by this bacterium.
