INFECTIOUS RETINITIS AND RETINAL DISEASE IN HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS-INFECTED INDIVIDUALS: A Photographic Atlas.

Over the previous 20 years, the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) epidemic has grown and there are numerous retinal complications that have been reported. With the advent of drags to control HIV infection, the incidence of these complications has been reduced but not eliminated. For this reason, many individuals in training or recently in practice may have only a small experience with diseases such as cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis, progressive outer retinal necrosis, acute retinal necrosis, and syphilitic, toxoplasmic, and cryptococcal retinal infections. In addition, the many types of HTV-related noninfectious retinopathy may also be confusing or lead to mis-diagnosis. This atlas is a collection of clinical fundus photographs and material of patients infected with HIV who presented at the AIDS Ocular Research Center at the University of California San Diego over an 18-year time period.
