摘要

Regarding the article "Degree Requirement and Employment Opportunity" by Dr Richard Weening published in the July/August 2012 Radiologic Technology, I applaud the author for examining the potential impact of the ARRT degree requirement. It is regrettable that it took nearly 3 years for someone to examine and publish the implications of this decision. That said, I found the article seriously flawed. First, the author only examined the percentage of medical imaging programs currently awarding certificates vs academic degrees, not the number of graduates from these programs. There was no attempt to determine how many certificate programs expect to remain viable beyond 2015 and how this requirement may impact their enrollment numbers. I find it difficult to answer the study objective of "determining the short-term effect of increasing minimal education standards" from such a limited data set.
