The European Health Claim Directive EC 1924/2006 comes into force in December 2012. It's widely claimed that it is slowing down — even stopping - innovation in the European market. But this point of view is debatable. Like all new regulations there are winners as well as losers. Some of the winners are companies who have seen ingredients that they use gain approved health claims under the Article 13.1 generic claims process. Growing in numbers are those companies who have decided to use a creative — but still entirely legal - approach to using the generic health claims that have been approved, turning into winners some that were being called losers a few months back.
