Ecuador's state-run PetroAmazonas is preparing to develop the country's block 31, despite opposition from indigenous groups and environmentalists. They claim that 30pc of the block is located within the protected area of the Yasuni national park, with the remaining 70pc overlapping into the unprotected area of the park, and that uncontacted tribes inhabit parts of the area covered by block 31.
