The moment Angela Scott laid eyes on Ampney Park, she was smitten - and she hadn't even set foot inside. It's easy to see why. The mellow Cotswold stone manor house, surrounded by formal gardens, a lake with gliding swans and 12ha of parkland with a trout stream running through it, is breathtaking. "It had a fabulous feel," says Angela, as she recalls that day in 1997. Her only concern was how to persuade her husband Edward to buy it. "It was far too big and over our budget. I thought, 'I'm going tohave to talk very hard to persuade him, very hard indeed'."
