Comparison of dietary patterns and nutrient intakes of elementary schoolchildren living in remote rural and urban areas in Korea: their potential impact on school performance.

摘要

In this study the authors investigated the dietary patterns of schoolchildren in rural areas and urban areas of Korea. The school performances of the children were analysed and compared to their dietary intakes. It was observed that the diets of the rural schoolchildren were poorer than the diets of the urban schoolchildren with daily intakes of calories, iron, and niacin below the recommended intakes. School performance was lower among the rural schoolchildren, who had a higher incidence of low family socioeconomic status and stunting. The authors conclude that an improvement in the dietary patterns and family socioeconomic status of rural schoolchildren might improve school performance.
