The 13th Annual International Philosophy of Nursing Conference began on 7 September 2009, on the campus of the University of West England in Bristol, UK. The conference theme of 'Nursing in an interdisciplinary world: cooperation, collaboration, or compromise', stimulated a wide range of thought-provoking presentations from scholars from Canada, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, the USA, and the UK. Day 1 of the event began with plenary presentations by Brenda Cameron and Rudd Ter Meulen, followed by a session dedicated to concurrent presentations. Day 2 saw plenaries by Michael Luntley and Dawn Freshwater as well as two concurrent sessions. The final day of the conference featured plenary presentations by Timothy Kirk and Pam Grace.
