A first experience The Mazda Design Division has been deepening its relations with students over the last couple of years as part of an educational program to develop future new designers. Although in the past sponsorship projects and internship programs were mainly adopted at overseas branches, Mazda now actively promotes them at the headquarters in Hiroshima as well. One example is the sponsorship program with students from the Fachhochschule Pforzheim (Germany), a highly, regarded design school in Europe. Mazda gave the students the attractive assignment this year of coming up with "design proposals for the next roadster". Last year's assignment was for a "design proposal for the next MPV." Eight students from the Transportation Design Department led by James Kelly, a professor of the Fachhochschule Pforzheim started working on the project in October last year. This project was the first opportunity for the students who had been studying industrial design to actually participate in designing a car. Along with Kelly, Hasip Girgin joined the project as an instructor.
