Synthesis of a class of 5-((5-(pyrrol-2-yl-methylene)-pyrrol-2-yl)methylene)-furan-2-ones and the formation of a furanone dipyrrin imino ether

A class of α-furanyl dipyrrins 2 were prepared by refluxing THF solutions of DDQ adducts 1 with the appropriate alcohols in the presence of AlCl3 and further subsequent reaction of the cyano-group results in the formation of an imino ether upon MeOH addition.
