We describe some results of experimental verification of the expediency of using metal oxides Nb_2O_5, Cr_2O_3, W_2O_5, MoO_2, NiO, etc. as a diffusant source in order to intensify the application of coatings in sodium and lithium melts. We investigate some specific features of the formation of chromium coatings, obtained in lithium from Cr_2O_3, as well as their chemical and phase composition, structure, and physicomechanical properties. We show that chromizing in Li-Cr_2O_3 medium proceeds 1.5 - 2 times as fast as in Li-Cr and guarantees satisfactory wear and corrosive resistance of steel articles.
