AISI programs challenge students of metallurgy and auto design

Three students designed exteriors for autos that would be hybrid-powered in this year's summer intern program sponsored by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). In the program, three graduating transportation designers from the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit design a car that meets a specific challenge. The program began in 1989, when students developed new designs for the Buick Reatta. In 1992, they designed vehicles powered by compressed natural gas. Last year, they created exteriors for the Ultralight Steel Auto Body ("AISI in New York," New Steel, July).
