Thanks largely to the shale revolution, British Columbia is likely to slowly catch up to Alberta in terms of gas production over the next couple of decades, putting an end to Alberta's lengthy reign as the province that not only pioneered an industry but has dominated it since gas was first produced in Canada. According to a recent report from Canada's National Energy Board (NEB), Canada's Pacific province has taken over the top spot as the country's main source of growth in natural gas production. By 2040, British Columbia's share of national gas production will nearly double to 46% of total Canadian production from current levels of 27%.
