Florida Efficiency Goals Spark Fight Between Greens, Utilities

Electric utilities and environmentalist groups in Florida clashed last week over how high to set new conservation and efficiency goals. Every five years, Florida state law requires the Public Service Commission to update the 10-year power conservation and efficiency goals for the seven largest power suppliers in Florida. These five-year revisions were put in place to save consumers money, help the environment and reduce dependance on oil in what was once an oil-heavy generation market.
