Chesapeake Moves Fast in Shale Play; Six Haynesville Wells Done

Chesapeake Energy said last week it plans to accelerate the pace of its drilling in the Haynesville Shale play of North Louisiana and East Texas after dramatically expanding the acreage it has under lease. Chief Executive Aubrey McClendon reiterated the company's conviction that the Haynesville Shale "could potentially have a larger impact on the company than any other play in which we have participated to date." Chesapeake first revealed its lease acquisition and drilling campaign in the Haynesville Shale in late March, saying at the time it held 200,000 net acres of land that could hold as much as 7.5 trillion cubic feet of gas.
