摘要

With annual automotive production totaling 10,257,318 motor vehicles in 2002, Japan is the world's second largest automobile producing country after the US. Japan's total domestic auto-related output, including automobiles, auto bodies, parts and accessories, was estimated to be worth more than 40.4T yen in 2001 (331.3B dollars at 122 yen/dollar), the most recent full year figure available. This represents more than 14.1 percent of Japan's total annual manufacturing output. In addition, auto-related industries in Japan are believed to account for one out of every ten jobs in the country. As a result of its decade-long recession, Japan's automotive industry is one of a few industries is enjoying its prospective business performances due to its outstanding sales in the US and Europe. During 2002, the total domestic vehicle sales of Japanese auto manufacturers posted a 1.9 percent decrease. However, the results varied by manufacturer. Honda's and Nissan's domestic sales posted a brisk 4.5 percent and 5.8 percent increase, while Toyota saw its sales drop by 2.2 percent.
