FOREIGN SUPPORT FOR THAI ENGINEER TRAINING

Two recent reports in the Bangkok Post (6th February 08) highlight the continual need for greater engineering skills, both in Thailand and across the SE Asia region. Through the Southeast Asia Engineering Education Development Network (SEED-Net) the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) is providing 32 million USD over five years to improve engineering skills and quality. It is planned that SEED-Net will develop 40,000 new engineers during this five year period. In Thailand the current demand for engineers is said to be 10,000 per year but only around 4,500 are being produced.
