Is there a simpler and more equitable way of using HLA data to allocate deceased donor kidneys?

Allocation of donor kidneys on the basis of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) compatibility increases graft survival, but prolongs the wait for a kidney in patients who have HLA phenotypes that are not common in the donor population (e.g. those from some ethnic minorities). OBJECTIVE To compare the effects of matching for HLA-DR with the effects of matching for HLA-A and HLA-B on outcomes after kidney transplantation, with a view to determining whether current HLA matching procedures could be modified to allow simpler and more equitable allocation of deceased donor kidneys.
