As a result of recent increased concern regarding environment problems, both the reduction of exhaust emissions and improvement of fuel efficiency in automobiles have become subjects requiring urgent attention. Therefore, infinitely variable transmissions (IVT), which can efficiently control engines, have been accepted in the market. In order to cope with recent needs for higher torque and higher efficiency, it is necessary to estimate the efficiency and maximum power capacity of the full toroidal variator. Transmission efficiency and maximum transmission capacity can be generally represented by dimensionless parameters in the traction analysis using an elastic/plastic fluid model. In this report, an analysis method for IVT traction using an elastic/plastic fluid model is introduced.
