Cattle bought or sold privately must be transferred on the NLIS database by the buyer within seven days in NSW, ACT, Tasmania, Victoria and SA and 48 hours in WA, NT and Queensland of the cattle being moved. The vendor, an agent or an authorised thirdparty can do the database transfer on the buyer's behalf if requested. Agents are not legally responsible for recording movements on the NLIS database for private transactions. A producer is also responsible for transferring cattle on the database whenthey move cattle between different properties they own (if the properties have different PICs); an agistment property; a travelling stock route (TSR); showground; sporting event or field day venue. Again the database must be notified by the owner of thecattle or an authorised third party within seven days (or 48 hours in WA, NT and Queensland) of the movement. In the NT, the owner of the property the cattle are on is legally responsible for transferring them onto and off the PIC on the database, not the owner of the cattle.
