Chemical care needed in mung bean harvest

Chemical desiccation of mung bean crops to preserve the appearance and quality of grain for high value Asian retail markets has become standard practice. But while improved farming systems and agronomy have lifted yields, growers are also reporting increasingly poor desiccation results. There are a number of steps to improve the efficacy of glyphosate-based desiccants, within label rates. The Grains Research and Development Corporation has funded research in central Queensland and preliminary results indicate the quality of water used in chemical applications is crucial.
