Probably the saddest part of my ungainly 124km/h pirouette exiting Queensland Raceway's infamous Turn One - well, the first one, anyway - is that I knew exactly, and I mean exactly what to do once I'd figured out I wasn't in Kansas any more Stand on the clutch, clamp on the brake, keep the eyes up, keep steering corrections to a minimum, try and back it into the kitty litter so it doesn't highside. The wiry Czech sits silently as the gravel dust settles gently on our black 997 GT3, before tersely instructing me to drive, off-line, back to the pits where he exits the car with barely a backwards glance. The other lead instructor, Carrera Cup racer Craig Baird, stifles a smile behind his two-way He's probably happy he wasn't in the car, I think to myself, gutted that I could do something so stupid so early in the day.
