Arabica coffee prices have retreated in the period under review, continuing in a prolonged downward trend amid ample supplies and despite some concerns about the spread of the roya fungus across Central American origins. New York coffee futures dropped steeply in mid-January before going through some up and down movements in a narrow 4 cent range. The benchmark March contract eventually settled 8.35 cents, or 5.3% lower, at 147.95 cents/lb, while the May contract gave up 8.15 cents to end at 150.95 cents/lb on February 1.
